Do I need a permit for a shed?

Firestone follows the 2018 International Residential Code. Detached one-story storage sheds under 200 square feet, on grade, with no utilities, generally do not require a building permit. Anything larger or anything with electrical or plumbing does. Firestone enforces its own development code on top of the IRC, including specific setback and zoning standards by neighborhood. The town also requires a separate backyard chicken permit if you are housing chickens. The homeowner files the permit. We give you everything needed to file.
