Gunbarrel is unincorporated Boulder County, so County rules apply. Boulder County exempts one detached accessory structure under 120 square feet on parcels of half an acre or less, and two such structures on parcels between half an acre and ten acres. The structure must be one story, no taller than 12 feet, with no utilities, and must not conflict with conservation easements or prior land use approvals. Larger structures and any with electrical or plumbing need a permit. Boulder County's updated 2025 amendments added enhanced ignition-resistant construction in wildfire areas.
